Non-asbestos
gaskets are made from a combination of various materials such as rubber,
fibers, and chemical additives. These components are blended together to
enhance heat resistance and chemical resistance. The mixture is then processed
and rolled into sheets, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
Because of
their composite structure, non-asbestos gaskets tend to have more microscopic
voids compared to metal gaskets, PTFE (Teflon) gaskets, or other solid gasket
types.
Therefore,
when used in gas or high-temperature steam lines, it is recommended to select
non-asbestos gaskets with a thickness not exceeding 1.5 mm. This helps minimize
internal voids, reduce the risk of leakage, and ensure better sealing
performance under high-temperature conditions.
